Magical Capri (Capri Part 2)

#4: Take a boat trip (self-steer) around the island

I have always liked being out at sea. The vastness of the sea offers me a taste of freedom and if I am lucky, I might even meet a mermaid or two.

There are probably not too many places where it is safe enough for one with no boat license (you just need a driving license) to sail out to sea on your own, so in Capri, we jumped at the chance to do just that.

Basically, the boating trip is unmissable if :
1. You are adventurous enough (brave enough to steer a boat all by yourself)
2. You can learn pretty quickly (as the briefing on the boat operation was done in less than 10 minutes and you are off on your own)

The boat rental company is called Banana and you can find them right next to the restaurant near the ferry ticket booth at Marina Grande.

The cost of renting a boat (with capacity of up to 5 people) : 90 Euros for 2 hours.

A complimentary map is provided with a suggested path to explore the different grottos along the island....

Two hours was honestly not enough as time passes really quickly when you are out at sea, and I would suggest renting for three hours if you want to swim in the green grotto or have a little picnic out at sea.

The ice box which they provide with the boat... loaded with our own snacks and drinks..

View of Capri from the sea...

Out in the open sea... I felt so FREE & LIBERATED!

Really relaxing too...

View of Faro and the lighthouse from the sea...

So in love with the sea and the smell of salt!

The highlight of the boat trip for me has to be driving through the Faraglioni (the little arch)...

The landmark of Capri...
And through it...
Watch the drive through in the video below in FULLSCREEN:

The boating trip was truly unforgettable and I highly recommend it!

#5: Take a walk in the Augustus Gardens

* There is an admission fee of 1 euro.

Beautiful blooms in a myriad of shades.. from the brights to pastels..

The main attraction for me at Augustus Gardens was not the actual garden itself although it was immaculately maintained; I was more impressed with the different views of Capri I could capture being in there.

And the most interesting... Via Krupp, which unfortunately is now closed due to the falling rocks..

And remember to grab a cup of lemonade along the way to beat the sweltering heat..  it was truly REFRESHING!

# 6: Explore Faro

Take the bus from Anacapri's bus terminal, with the bus heading in the direction of Faro.

The bus stop at Faro...

Beautiful blue sky...

One with the infinite blue sea...

There is also a beach and bars to chill out at ...

Faro was particularly peaceful as it was away from the big crowds at Piazza Umberto I in Capri ... I literally kicked off my shoes and felt so at ease just sitting by the sea listening to the waves.

Capri's nature is so lush and rich in colour.

Can you see the face?
The sunset at Faro would have been beautiful to witness but we were a little too early.. so do only go at 8p.m (in summer) if you would like to watch the sunset..

This picture was taken at 7p.m. where the sun was still high in the sky..

Magical Capri (Capri Part 1)

Being on Capri island is akin to a waking dream. The whole island enchants its visitors- from its mysterious grottos to its infinite blue hues to its lively floral and fauna, there is never a dull moment in Capri.

Catch Capri in a nutshell in the video below in FULLSCREEN ::

The island offers a plethora of activities ideal for an energetic holiday!

These are the unmissables:

#1: Take the chairlift up to Monte Solaro

This has to be one of the most awesome rides ever (even though I am usually quite afraid of heights, I am glad I made the trip up!)

Overcoming fear...

**Tip: Bring a plastic bag to put your slippers in if you do not wish to lose them on the way up.
Also check the price of the tickets with your hotel, it might be cheaper to purchase from the hotel as some hotels offer a 10% discount.

The ride up...

The view on the way up…
The view that greets you after the 10 minutes ride up…
An infinite blue.... It's so SURREAL!!

So happy and grateful to be here...

No filter...
The Nature on Capri is so alive...
Nature speaks to us in ways we don't even realize...

Wonder how the cat got up...
Solo chairlift ride... it was pretty fun actually, and my fear turned into something I really enjoyed!

#2 : Grotto Azzurra (The Blue Grotto)

This was definitely one of the places to see on my bucket list for a really long time and I wasn't disappointed!

There are basically two routes to the grotto you can choose from...

Route 1 : An hour boat ride tour + blue grotto
which is 18 Euros (boat ride tour) + 13 Euros (entrance fee to grotto) + 10 Euros (usually the minimum tip for the gondola man)

Route 2 : Bus ride from Anacapri + Blue Grotto
which is 1.80 Euros (bus fare to Grotto Azzurra end stop) + 13 Euros (entrance fee to grotto) + 10 Euros (usually the minimum tip for the gondola man)

The latter will save you some money if you decide to give the boat ride around the island a miss.

As I was staying at Anacapri, the best option for me was to go by the bus to the grotto.

Visitors eagerly awaiting their turn to visit the grotto.

We need to hop on one of the gondolas which are small enough to enter the grotto...

The grotto felt very much like a sacred, magical place. The experience was out of this world. I loved every second of the mere 5 minutes ride inside.

My first time being in a sea cave....

The phenomenon of the grotto is created by sunlight passing through an underwater cavity which creates a blue reflection that illuminates the cave.

**Tip: It is best visit the grotto during the noontime when the sun is up in the sky as the reflection is illuminated by the sunlight entering the little opening to the cave.

**Tip: The gondola man will recommend you to on your flash for pictures, which i will not recommend as it leads to an overexposure in the dark cave. My pictures were all taken without flash.
Watch the entire grotto experience in the video below in FULLSCREEN ::

One off my bucket list! :-)

#3 : Explore Anacapri

Away from the maddening crowd is a quick and picturesque bus ride up to Anacapri from Capri. The historical centre of Anacapri perched on a high plateau above Capri town is quite the opposite from the Piazetta of Capri. Anacapri is much quieter and truly epitomizes the essence of the island. Generally the accomodation and restaurants here are less expensive too. Anacapri is the genuine side of Capri where you will see the island's residents resting and watching the world go by on the pretty ceramic benches.

Besides, there is just something deeply alluring about discovering the secret gardens brimming with pretty blooms in Anacapri's private residences.

Step into another dimension of secret gardens...

And end the gorgeous day on the island with garden dining...

Dining in Anacapri is definitely quieter and cozier than Capri...
Fresh pasta ....
